David Corcoran and Karen Sugden with Moffitt and Caspi.

Psychology Professors Terrie Moffitt and Avshalom Caspi are known internationally for their human development research - spanning from birth to death. Their work centers on two cohort studies - the Dunedin Longitudinal Study and the Environmental Risk (E-Risk) Longitudinal Twin Study - and includes studies of development and aging around the world, including nationwide administrative linkage data from millions of citizens in Norway, Denmark, and New Zealand. Here they are joined by their terrific genomics collaborators David Corcoran and Karen Sugden (left).

Our Research

Our research is focused on improving knowledge about how to prevent problems of adult mental and physical health, by uncovering when such problems first emerge in life, and why. Along with our two primary, on-going studies, we concentrate our research on the following topics and tools: Genes & Environment, Antisocial Behavior, Aging, Childhood Adversity & Adult Health, Mental Health, Cannabis, Neuroimaging, Geocoding, and Statistical Code.

Away from the Lab

Along with our research, our family farm is our passion. The Macon Farm is located in the North Carolina Piedmont and is the historic homeplace of Dr. Moffitt’s maternal grandparents. The farm is a popular location for those interested in history and fun excursions. We also feature a variety of homegrown, unique pieces of art.
